Cartagena was one of the most heavily fortified cities of the Spanish Empire and this tour highlights the incredible breadth of the fortifications.

Crossing the expansive bay of Cartagena you will arrive at the fishing village of Bocachica where you visit the fort of San Fernando de Bocachica. This defensive compound was finished at the end of the XVIII Century, and was a combination of bastions and fortresses located at both sides of the shipping channel & entrance to the harbour. These fortifications were an easy means to block the access to the inner bay for enemy attacks coming from the Caribbean sea.
On your return boat trip will be able to observe the remains of the additional fortifications of Manzanillo and Santa Cruz de Castillo Grande.

The tour continues to the historic city, the walls of which took 194 years to be completed and enabled Cartagena to defend itself from numerous attacks by pirates and would be invaders.

A short stop at the San Francisco Javier Battery will give you the opportunity to take beautiful pictures.

A short panoramic walk tour through the narrow streets of the walled city, with its colonial houses, squares and the beautiful baroque door of the Inquisition Palace, will transport you back in time to the 16th Century.

A short stop at the jewelry stores of downtown will give you the opportunity to see the variety of the renowned Colombian Emeralds as well as the pre-Columbian art work at Galeria Cano.

Before returning to the pier, the tour will then continue for a visit to San Felipe de Barajas Fortress, situated outside the walled city, this monumental fort is considered to be the most outstanding feat of Spanish military engineering in South America.
